Background information Freestyle Now started to organise bicycle stunt (BMX) competitions in 1987 when the sport of bicycle freestyle began here
in W.A. We managed competitions in 1988, 1989 and 1990. Bicycle freestyle riding died out after that here in W.A. until the
late 90's when it started to grow again. In 1997 Freestyle Now once again started to organise and manage bicycle freestyle
competitions in the Perth area. We saw a need to organize some competitions as the sport was again growing.
The first of these competitions was at a local jumping area known as "the muddies". This competition was done without any
support from any other organization. Freestyle Now organized two more competitions in 1997 with the aid of other
organizations for support. These were known as the jumpfest comps. In 1999 the association with the City of Joondalup
started with the two day competition at the Joondalup festival. This competition is the biggest in Perth and one that the riders
in W.A. look forward too each year. Freestyle Now is now running a state series of bicycle stunt competitions.
With every competition that Freestyle Now manages that competition becomes part of the state series. Freestyle Now has
managed bicycle stunt competitions for many local government councils. A full list of competitions can be found on the
competitions records page or a list of organizations that have used our services can be found on the clients page.
Freestyle Now is the most experienced and professional organization in managing and organizing bicycle stunt competitions
in Western Australia. We cater for all disciplines of bicycle freestyle including flatland and ramp. We have a large database

we hosts our own equipment including, P.A. system, power leads as well as a complete portable skatepark. These ramps
have been professionally built to cater for bikes. Competition entry forms are on hand and contain a wavier of claims.

Competition
format
From the experience that Freestyle Now has in managing competitions we
have been able to find the right format for all to be happy with (riders,
spectators, judges, clients). The first thing you will notice is that
we do not run the competitions in any age categories. This is due to the
fact that the sport of freestyle is based on your level of skill to be
good rather than your age. There are three classes that the riders can
enter they are duds (beginners), spuds (expert) and studs (pro). We can
usually tell which rider should be in which class so no one is placed
in the wrong classes. Our competitions cater for all riders of all levels
and of all ages, no one misses out. We can even cater for the under 10
year olds by making a special class for them if the need arises.
The judging is done by three judges all of whom are bike riders them selves.
The ramp/skatepark riders are judged in five different categories which
comprise of coping tricks, diversity, technical, airs or jumping and consistency.
The flatland riders also have five categories and they are accuracy, difficulty,
originality, diversity and flow. These judging formats make it fair to
all riders who enter.

In
a usual competition the riders all get to have two runs each. The scores
are totaled up from the two runs and the top place getters go into a final.
The number of riders in the final depends on how large the class is. The
same judging format applies in the finals to determine the final placing
of the riders. On some occasions when asked for by the riders there is
a jam format final. This is where the top three riders go into the final
and all three ride at the same time for 5 minutes. The riders like this
type of final as there is no pressure on the rider.
The announcing duties for the competition are handled by Shaun Jarvis.
With over 18 years of experience in announcing he knows how to call the
competitions well. Shaun's announcing is professional, humorous, entertaining
and exciting. Shaun gets the riders as well as the spectators fully amped
up on a continual basis. This gives the competition an awesome atmosphere.
At all the competitions there is music always playing through the P.A.
system. We take great care to play music that the riders and spectators
like as this keeps them all amped up. We do however try to play music
that does not contain any offensive language as we feel that it is not
appropriate as it can offend some people. This can be quite difficult
at times but we take as much care as possible.

At
the end of the competitions we like to hand out prizes to the place getters.
The supply of prizes can either be supplied yourselves or Freestyle Now
can supply them. We have excellent contacts in the biking industry and can
obtain the prizes at a cheaper rate than many others can. This costing is
an extra to the price of competition management.
