Shaun Jarvis |
|||
|
..I
first met Shaun when I was born. So ive known him all my life. He is a
dedicated person who likes to help others and loves the sport of BMX freestyle.
After getting involved in to BMX racing in 1981 his natural progression
was to take up freestyle riding. So in the beginning of 1986 he gave up
BMX and started freestyling. Shaun joined the Redline trick team in mid
1986 and done some shows, but after quitting that team they quickly disbanded.
With his two good friends, Brad Dyer and Georg Molnar they started up
a small zine (mini magazine) called Freestyle Now and with that a trick
team was formed with the same name. To promote the sport Freestyle Now
started to do shows. After
many left the sport, Shaun's dedication to his bike pushed him on to keep
doing shows and promoting the sport that he loves so much. This is what
Shaun really loves to do. Shaun rides all terrains and does not just stick
to one type of riding, but his first love is to ride flatland. He is a
bike rider that likes to ride flatland. Not a flatland rider. Shaun is
driven by the passion for bike riding and this is what makes him so focused.
He loves the feeling that he get when he busts out a nice long link of
tricks or just jumping off of curbs. It's a feeling that only he can understand.
Shaun's riding style is very original due to the fact that he rides on
his own most of the time and has done so for many years. He can bust out
some new tricks as well as the old school favourites in his riding style
as well as hitting up the ramps and skateparks with some original tricks.
Shaun's dedication and drive for his bike is also present in his life
skills. Shaun is a sole parent and has three children. Kirra (17) Karina
(15) and Cody (11) all live with Shaun and they are his first love in
life. Freestyle is to Shaun what Shaun is to freestyle. He is a rider
for life. Shaun is freestyle now and without Shaun freestyle now would
not be what is.

| On my 13th birthday I signed up at the Marmion BMX club. (10th October 1981). I raced competitively all over the state but I eventually got fed up with the training and I just wanted to ride my bike. That is what pushed me into Freestyling as you never had to train, only ride your bike. I raced my last race in January 1986 | |||
| Started Freestyling | |||
| January 1986 | |||
| Became a team member of Freestyle Now | |||
| October 1986. Was one of the founding members | |||
| First Freestyle Now show | |||
| Mullaloo primary school, December 1986. | |||
| What can you remember most about that first show | |||
| It was a cool show and this is where brad, georg and myself would jam sometimes. The kids just loved the small demo that we did and even now I can still hear them screaming twenty years later | |||
| Type of bike and set up | |||

| Flatland mainly but I like to hit up the skateparks and ramps when I can. I like to go street riding and bomb as many hills as I can. | |||
| What was your first bike | |||
| my first bike was an gold indi 500 dragster, 3 speed shifter and all. I ended up gettin some MX bars and seat for it. My first real BMX was a Redline mx 2. That bike was so cool and I had all the parts on it that i wanted. Araya 7x rims with suzie hubs, uni seat, DX pedals, elina seat, that was a sweet ride | |||
| How did you get into riding | |||
| In the town I lived in (Quinns Rocks) a group of guys had built a killer track (trails) and my older brother was hanging out there with them. He kept saying to me to go down and have some fun. After having a look I started to go down and ride. The funny thing is that the other guys got older and moved away or quit and I kept riding and building jumps. | |||
| Who has influenced you the most in riding | |||
|
This is a hard question to answer as I have rode with many riders and had many heroes' to look up to.I would have to say that no rider has influenced my riding as I have my own way of riding. Many riders have influenced me in a personal way and change the way I see things. Bob Haro. I meet him at the 1983 Australian BMX titles. He was and still is one of my all time favourite riders. Chase Gouin. After reading his interview in the May 1996 ride BMX mag it changed my outlook on may things. Kie Ashworth. As when ever I ride with him he seems to give me courage to push my own limits. Shane Badman. His interview in 2020 BMX mag was very inspiring, and meeting him at he 2006 BMX games was great. Dennis McCoy. He told me when I meet him in 1996 that I can't stop riding till he dose. That guy will never stop. |
